Description
The ABC Hansen diesel fired roaster has a pre-heating chamber spiraling the heated gas flue and this heat – that would otherwise go to waste is utilized to preheat the product by as much as 20 degrees (C) before entering the actual roasting drum chamber.
This naturally allows for an increased capacity and a better and more penetrating roast. In the case of soy beans the roaster has a capacityof around 250-500kg per hour at 140+ degrees depending on the model.
The machine capacity and the roasting heat is adjusted by controlling the following variables of the machine:
a) The rotation speed of the drum, which also influences the tumble action in the drum, as well as how long the product stays in the drum
b) The intake and infeed rate (controlled with the intake conveyor, and with the slide between the flue and the chamber, to control how long the product stays in the pre-heating spiral)
c) Angle of operation of the machine – which determines how quickly product runs through the drum.

The roaster will typically be loaded with a bucket elevator – to allow to lift the product, so that it is discharged to the pre-heating gas flue heater.
A jacketed conditioning bin follows the roaster where the product may be allowed to cure further and to conditioning for improved colour and taste where required.
