Aeration Automation

Category:

Description

An issue that grain storage operators constantly have – is when and how long to aerate the grain in their silos.

With an automated aeration system – this question is answered – it takes the decision out of the operators’ hands, and automates the aeration, based on hard data, that the system receives from up to three systems that have pre-set parameters. The three systems are:

  1. The temperature monitoring system – which will indicate if there are hot spots and problem areas in the grain silo
  2. The humidity monitoring system – which will indicate if there are humidity issues in the silo
  3. An integrated weather station, that will measure the relative humidity and air temperature before starting the aeration fans.

The importance of the weather station can not be overstated enough. It is no use trying to aerate the grain using hot, moist air, and expecting a reduction in temperature in the silo, or a reduction in the moisture in the silo. By aerating with hot, humid air, or even forgetting the fans on when it rains, you could actually be doing more damage than good when aerating the grain – adding additional heat and moisture, and causing the insect/bacteria/moisture problems to be exacerbated.

With an automated aeration system you’ll be able to:

  • Program different aeration goals – be it dry-aeration, cooling or conservation
  • Create custom parameters for the grain – as per the operator’s experience and different climates
  • Eliminate the need to get up in early morning hours or late at night to start aeration fans when conditions are optimal
  • Aerate only when conditions are optimal, and automatically stop aeration when weather conditions change
  • Accurate and real time updates from sensor data and weather station data as to conditions
  • Pre-loaded grain specific parameters for hygroscopic balances
  • 24/7 automatic monitoring and aeration – reducing your risk of grain losses – even when you aren’t on site.

All of the automation is controlled by the Ceres Web Software package – which communicates seamlessly with the rest fo the components offered by Procer including the temperature monitoring, humidity monitoring, aeration automation and silo level monitoring

Once again – all the components have wireless communication – making installation and moving of the equipment easy and makes accesibility of the different components easy as well – whether your in your office, on holilday, or on the site.
