Description
A cyclone separator -or a cyclonic dust collector, is a commonly used air pollution control unit, that cleanses air and gasses of solid materials, before discharging the cleaned air to the atmosphere, or to a filter bank.
ABC Hansen uses cyclones extensively in our air grain handling systems, combined with our range of fans, to separate the transported material from the air at a central point for discharge to a next stage, and also in conjunction with aspiration channels, where light material is removed from the product (such as bran, leaves, pods etc) when cleaning grain and milled product.
Cyclones can be set up in positive pressure applications – where a material handling fan blows the equipment into the cyclone, thus creating a positive pressure in the cyclone (such as with our standard Hippo Hammer mill applications) or with a negative pressure application – where the fan is placed behind the cyclone, and the product is sucked into the cyclone from a collection point.
Usually a negative pressure system will create less dust, as the cyclone will always be fitted with a rotary valve at the outlet, preventing any air from entering into the cyclone from the outlet.
Particle sizes as small as 10micron can be separated from the conveying air using ABC Hansen cyclones, on negative pressure systems, with rotary valves and with a variable speed drive on the fan, so that the fan speed can be optimally adjusted for airspeed.
Various cyclone sizes are available – depending on the size of the fan selected – and cyclone sizes are determined by the airspeed and air volume moved by the selected fan.
Cyclones are manufactured in painted mild steel, or optionally in stainless steel
