roller mills
For uniform particle sizeHURRICANE ROLLER MILLS
ABCHansen Africa manufactures a full range of compact roller mills in single, double, triple and quad combinations with built in eccentric sifting screens. The Hurricane roller mill is presented only with 500mm (w) x 250mm (dia) rollers. Our advantage is that you can buy 250mm diameter rollers anywhere in the world and can have it fluted by al standard fluting systems.
Hurricane compact roller mills allows for sifting and rolling on one machine frame thus eliminating the need to convey grain from one rolling stage to a sifting stage and then to another roller stage.
The mill configuration of a Hurricane is either two double roller sets (The Hurricane Quad), a double and single roller set (Hurricane Trip) and one double roller set (Hurricane Double).
All roller dimensions are 500 x 250mm (dia) – the diameter specification specifically allowing a user to buy rolls from many local and international suppliers.
Eccentric sifter screens are determined by the end product required.
Roller mills are specifically used when the end product’s particles needs to be of uniform size.
Roller mills also generally use less power to grind grains to a specific size.
Roller mills are also more expensive than hammer mills and plate mills but create less “powder” than the latter two mills.
Roller mills are often used in wheat mills as a premill after polishing and before the “reduction stages” where smooth unfluted rollers flatten the bran inside the middlings to allow for better separation during sifting. The ABC Hansen stone mills are often used in this reduction phase rather than sets of smooth rollers, making the milling system much more affordable.
In the first “Break” stages after polishing, the bran is separated from the endosperm due to the fluted roller action “bending” rather than cutting the wheat kernel parts allowing the bran to peel off the endosperm due to the difference in elasticity of the two distinct parts of the wheat kernel.
Maize mills can also be configured to allow for de-germinators and Hurricane roller mills rather than Hippo hammer mills which is a less expensive option.
ABC Hansen Africa (Pty) Ltd was established in South Africa in the mid 1990’s as associated to ABC Hansen A/S established in Denmark in 1925, and more recently Engsko / United Milling Systems (established in 1885 in Randers, Denmark and part of the same group of companies). The company has 50% South African shareholding.
Engsko UMS is represented throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Northern Africa.
ABC Hansen Africa occupies more than 4,000 square meters of manufacturing and warehousing space in Pretoria South Africa and operates a warehouse in Windhoek Namibia with stock holding in Randers, Denmark and Nebraska, USA.
