Description
ABC Hansen Africa has developed a revolutionary new way for processing feed for ruminant animals – with minimal power consumption and minimal labour, to be able to produce a wide range of ruminant type feeds.
The Multimix plant is able to produce as pellets or as loose feeds:
– Total Mix Ration (TMR)
– Dairy Mix Ration (DMR)
– Production licks
– Feed concentrates
The equipment is manufactured for high capacity production, for large commercial cattle, sheep and goat farms, feedlots, dairies and for animal feed producers – who are looking for a competitive advantage when it comes to feeding time.
Using the proven MultiMix double spiral feed blenders from our sister company Cormall in Denmark, we are able to produce a full feed with the best homogeneity in the mixes available in the market today. The MultiMix blender received full bales of roughage (lucerne/grass/straw) and cuts them into digestible pieces.
After mixing and cutting, the product is passed through a series of hammer mills, that mill the mixture through an 8mm screen, to achieve a desirous consistency and size – suitable for feeding loose, or for processing to the pelleting mill. The product is extracted by air from the mills to a cyclone with a negative air pressure system- to minimise dust and eliminate losses in transfer – before entering an activated buffer bin from which can be bagged off as high quality loose feed or sent to the pelleting process.
If it is chosen to pellet the product, the product is passed through a steam conditioning unit – steam can be generated using either electrical steam generators, coal steam boilers, or diesel fired boilers, depending on the availability of fuel sources. The steam conditioning ensures lower wear on the pellet mills, higher capacity, and a harder, better quality pellet that transports well. Steam addition increases the digestibility of the pellets as well, as the heat in the pelleting process is increased by approximately 20ºC – cooking the components better, making for better retention on the animals, and better results for the producer.
After passing through the steam and pelleting process, it is conveyed to the counterflow pellet cooler, where ambient air is passed through the pellets for approximately 20 minutes, to cool off the pellets, and get rid of any residual surface moisture. The pellet cooler has an integrated grader on the outlet, which removes broken pellets and crumbs, and reintroduces them to the pellet mills, to eliminate losses, and to ensure the highest quality final product.
The system is designed for versatility, and nearly any source of cellulose can be introduced to the mixture. Grass, lucerne, bagasse, wood chips, sawdust, leaves (when doing bushgraze type feeds – especially in drought struck areas) to produce a usable feed that ruminants can survive and thrive upon.
Provision is made for a bulk molasses tank, for dosing molasses to the mixtures via a special cavitation pump before milling, to increase the energy content of the feed mixture, as well as the palatability of the feed, again resulting in better results.
As an optional extra water addition can be added to the mixing process, by adding a water tank and high volume pump and spray nozzle to the system, which is especially important for dairy mixtures, to ensure high moisture content in the feed. The MultiMix blender is able to handle high moisture feeds mixtures as well. However, when producing high moisture feeds, the feed will be discharged as a whole feed from the blender, and not milled and pelleted, as the moisture content would create blockages in these processes.
ABC Hansen is excited to assist you with your endeavor to increase returns on your feed milling project!
